COUNTRY HOUSE WITH WINDMILLS ON THE OUTSKIRTS OF VAROSHA: “The irrigation of the orange groves was in the past worked entirely by big Canadian windmills. of which there are over two thousand around Famagusta, and although co-day water is largely obtained by engine power which draws it from the wells formerly worked by the windmills, many of which the groves still employ the latter when the wind is favourable, in order to save petrol expense”. (Olive Murray Chaman, Across Cyprus, 1945, p. 121)
